With the intake and valve covers removed, you have easy access to the lifters. loosen all nuts on all rocker arms, remove the push rods and then with needle nose pliers, lift out each lifter. you may want to use a box or similar device to keep the push rods in proper order. with the lifters out, and of course with the distributor removed, carefull remove the cam shaft taking note not to damage the cam bearings on the way out.
